My Volunteer Experience with Nex-Tech Economic Development
Written by: Dauda Bangura
My name is Dauda Bangura. I recently graduated from Fort Hays State University.
On November 24, 2025, I volunteered with Nex-Tech and had the opportunity to work with Mr. Friday Otuya, who is the Community Engagement Specialist. During that day, I had the opportunity to visit two cities in central and northwest Kansas.
In Great Bend, we visited the Great Bend Public Library to see the results of a donation that was funded by Nex-Tech. The donation was used to acquire an age-appropriate computer learning interface, equipped with academic materials to support children’s technological learning and problem-solving skills.
In Norton, Nex-Tech installed public Wi-Fi in Elmwood National Park. This project was designed to keep the community connected year-round while enjoying Mother Nature and outdoor activities.
As a digital marketing graduate, I documented these events from a digital perspective and began to understand how Nex-Tech connects with people, their communities, and businesses, and how it goes beyond providing broadband connectivity. At the end of the day, I learned that they are also investing in community development and engagement, scholarships, donations, sponsorship, home security solutions, and more. Check out my LinkedIn post.

Friday Otuya
Community Engagement Specialist
I'm Friday Otuya /Oh-Too-Yah/. I love sharing development resources, working on initiatives that change lives, and building bridges that lead to prosperity.
Specifically, I originate, underwrite, and deploy capital to small businesses that typically don't fit bank credit criteria. These businesses create jobs and expand economic opportunity in Nex-Tech's service area. I also support Nex-Tech's community and legislative strategy toward making life better through technology.
Before this, I worked in broadcast journalism and corporate communications, and did development finance work across Africa and the U.S.
If you are curious how Nex-Tech can partner with you through loans, grants, donations, or another kind of capital investment, I'd love to chat.
I live with my wife and two lads in Hays, KS.
