Nex-Tech provides 11 repurposed laptops to support the Salina VITA program’s free tax preparation services for low- to moderate-income households.

SALINA, Kan. — February 6, 2026 — Nex-Tech has donated 11 professionally repurposed laptops to the Salina Area United Way in support of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. VITA provides free tax preparation for qualifying individuals and families based on IRS guidelines, helping reduce financial stress and eliminating costly tax preparation fees for residents throughout Saline County and surrounding areas.

Each year, the Salina VITA program serves approximately 800–900 taxpayers across its 10-county service area, impacting more than 1,200 individuals and families. In 2025, the program helped return just over $1 million to local households. For the upcoming 2026 tax season, the goal is to serve 950 taxpayers and help return more than $1.5 million through critical tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and child and dependent care credits.

Nex-Tech’s technology donation directly supports program operations by ensuring VITA volunteers have reliable equipment. These laptops help keep services free and accessible to the community.

“Supporting the VITA program was an easy decision,” said Dustin Schlaefli, Vice President of Customer Experience at Nex-Tech. “The Salina Area United Way gives so much back to the communities we serve, and we are proud to provide this equipment at no cost to help further their mission.”

To celebrate the donation, staff of the Salina Area United Way gathered for a photo alongside local Nex-Tech employees.
